Grey Is Not My Colour

This story was intended as YA novel, but it just didn’t really work that way. Or maybe it did; I don’t know. The intention is there – for most of the story, Franka is 16 and there is a little fantasy (superpower) twist, but the story might be too heavy on depression and dealing with trauma to be a decent YA thing.

The backstory of this story is probably just as long as that of The Life You Have Chosen; I think I invented Franka and Marion (who doesn’t feature in Chapter 1) when I was maybe 15. The funny bit is that at first, the hero of the story was supposed to be Marion, with Franka as the narrator but also ‘just’ a supporting character. (It was like this in the first few short stories about the girls.) When I finally got all the inspiration I needed and started writing, though, it didn’t turn out that way. Franka took over, possibly because when I was writing about her, I was myself struggling with depression (which was not helped by the covid pandemic raging all around us), and it just all ended the way it did.

I hope you will like it anyway.
